أَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَيَجَانِ الْحِرْصِ

allāhumma innī a‘ūdhū bika min hayajāni al-ḥirṣi

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the fervor of greed

وَسَوْرَةِ الْغَضَبِ وَغَلَبَةِ الْحَسَدِ وَضَعْفِ الصَّبْرِ

wa sawrati al-ghaḍabi wa ghalabati al-ḥasadi wa ḍa‘fi aṣ-ṣabri

And the surge of anger, the dominance of envy, and the weakness of patience

وَقِلَّةِ الْقَنَاعَةِ وَشَكَاسَةِ الْخُلُقِ

wa qillati al-qanā‘ati wa shakāsati al-khuluqi

And the lack of contentment, and the harshness of character

وَإِلْحَاحِ الشَّهْوَةِ وَمَلَكَةِ الْحَمِيَّةِ

wa ilḥāḥi ash-shahwati wa malakati al-ḥamiyyati

And the insistence of desire, and the habit of zeal

وَمُتَابَعَةِ الْهَوَى وَمُخَالَفَةِ الْهُدَى

wa mutāba‘ati al-hawā wa mukhālafati al-hudā

And following whims, and opposing guidance

وَسِنَةِ الْغَفْلَةِ وَتَعَاطِي الْكُلْفَةِ

wa sinati al-ghaflati wa ta‘āṭi al-kulfati

And the slumber of heedlessness, and undertaking burdens

وَإِيثَارِ الْبَاطِلِ عَلَى الْحَقِّ وَالْإِصْرَارِ عَلَى الْمَأْثَمِ

wa īthāri al-bāṭili ‘alā al-ḥaqqi wa al-iṣrāri ‘alā al-ma’thami

And preferring falsehood over truth, and persisting in sin

وَاسْتِصْغَارِ الْمَعْصِيَةِ وَاسْتِكْثَارِ الطَّاعَةِ

wa istiṣghāri al-ma‘ṣiyati wa istikthāri aṭ-ṭā‘ati

And belittling disobedience, and exaggerating obedience

وَمُبَاهَاةِ الْمُكْثِرِينَ وَالْإِزْرَاءِ بِالْمُقِلِّينَ

wa mubāhāti al-mukthirīna wa al-izrā’i bil-muqillīna

And vying with the wealthy, and showing contempt to the poor

وَسُوءِ الْوِلَايَةِ لِمَنْ تَحْتَ أَيْدِينَا

wa sū’i al-wilāyati liman taḥta aydīnā

And poor guardianship over those under our care

وَتَرْكِ الشُّكْرِ لِمَنِ اصْطَنَعَ الْعَارِفَةَ عِنْدَنَا

wa tarki ash-shukri limani aṣṭana‘a al-‘ārifata ‘indanā

And neglecting gratitude to those who showed kindness to us

أَوْ أَنْ نَعْضُدَ ظَالِمًا أَوْ نَخْذُلَ مَلْهُوفًا

aw an na‘ḍuda ẓāliman aw nakhdhula malhūfan

Or supporting an oppressor, or abandoning the distressed

أَوْ نَرُومَ مَا لَيْسَ لَنَا بِحَقٍّ

aw narūma mā laysa lanā biḥaqqin

Or seeking what is not rightfully ours

أَوْ نَقُولَ فِي الْعِلْمِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ

aw naqūla fī al-‘ilmi bighayri ‘ilmin

Or speaking about knowledge without knowledge

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ نَنْطَوِيَ عَلَى غِشِّ أَحَدٍ

wa na‘ūdhū bika an nantawiya ‘alā ghishshi aḥadin

And we seek refuge in You from harboring deceit against anyone

وَأَنْ نُعْجَبَ بِأَعْمَالِنَا وَنَمُدَّ فِي آمَالِنَا

wa an nu‘jaba bi-a‘mālinā wa namudda fī āmālinā

And from being pleased with our deeds, and prolonging our hopes

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سُوءِ السَّرِيرَةِ وَاحْتِقَارِ الصَّغِيرَةِ

wa na‘ūdhū bika min sū’i as-sarīrati wa iḥtiqāri aṣ-ṣaghīrati

And we seek refuge in You from evil intentions and belittling small sins

وَأَنْ يَسْتَحْوِذَ عَلَيْنَا الشَّيْطَانُ

wa an yastaḥwidha ‘alaynā ash-shayṭānu

And from Satan gaining control over us

أَوْ يَنْكُبَنَا الزَّمَانُ أَوْ يَتَهَضَّمَنَا السُّلْطَانُ

aw yankubanā az-zamānu aw yatahaḍḍamanā as-sulṭānu

Or from time afflicting us, or the ruler oppressing us

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ تَنَاوُلِ الْإِسْرَافِ وَمِنْ فِقْدَانِ الْكَفَافِ

wa na‘ūdhū bika min tanāwuli al-isrāfi wa min fiqdāni al-kafāfi

And we seek refuge in You from indulging in excess and lacking sufficiency

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَمَاتَةِ الْأَعْدَاءِ وَمِنَ الْفَقْرِ إِلَى الْأَكْفَاءِ

wa na‘ūdhū bika min shamātati al-a‘dā’i wa mina al-faqri ilā al-akfā’i

And from the gloating of enemies and poverty among peers

وَمِنْ مَعِيشَةٍ فِي شِدَّةٍ وَمَيْتَةٍ عَلَى غَيْرِ عُدَّةٍ

wa min ma‘īshatin fī shiddatin wa maytatin ‘alā ghayri ‘uddatin

And from a life of hardship and a death without preparation

وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْحَسْرَةِ الْعُظْمَى

wa na‘ūdhū bika mina al-ḥasrati al-‘uẓmā

And we seek refuge in You from the greatest regret

وَالْمُصِيبَةِ الْكُبْرَى وَأَشْقَى الشَّقَاءِ وَسُوءِ الْمَآبِ

wa al-muṣībati al-kubrā wa ashqā ash-shaqā’i wa sū’i al-ma’ābi

And the greatest calamity, the worst misery, and a bad end

وَحِرْمَانِ الثَّوَابِ وَحُلُولِ الْعِقَابِ

wa ḥirmāni ath-thawābi wa ḥulūli al-‘iqābi

And deprivation of reward and the onset of punishment

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ

allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā muḥammadin wa ālihi

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his family

وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَلِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ

wa a‘idhni min kulli dhālika biraḥmatika

And protect me from all of this by Your mercy

وَجَمِيعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

wa jamī‘a al-mu’minīna wa al-mu’mināti

And all the believing men and believing women

يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

yā arḥama ar-rāḥimīna

O Most Merciful of the merciful
