وَمُعَافَاتِكَ بَعْدَ خُبْرِكَ،

wa mu‘āfātika ba‘da khubrik,

and Your granting of well-being after Your awareness.

فَكُلُّنَا قَدِ اقْتَرَفَ الْعَائِبَةَ فَلَمْ تَشْهَرْهُ ،

fa-kullunā qadi iqtarafa al-‘ā’ibah fa-lam tashharh,

For all of us have committed a shameful act, yet You did not make it public,

وَارْتَكَبَ الْفَاحِشَةَ فَلَم تَفْضَحْهُ

wa irtakaba al-fāḥishah fa-lam tafḍaḥh,

and perpetrated an indecency, yet You did not disgrace him,

وَتَسَتَّـرَ بِالْمَسَاوِي فَلَمْ تَدْلُلْ عَلَيْهِ،

wa tasattara bi-al-masāwī fa-lam tadlul ‘alayh,

and concealed himself with evil deeds, yet You did not point them out.

كَمْ نَهْي لَكَ قَدْ أَتَيْنَاهُ،

kam nahyun lakā qad ataynāh,

How many prohibitions of Yours have we transgressed,

وَأَمْر قَدْ وَقَفْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ فَتَعَدَّيْنَاهُ،

wa amrun qad waqaftanā ‘alayhī fa-ta‘addaynāh,

and a command upon which You made us stand, yet we exceeded it,

وَسَيِّئَة اكْتَسَبْنَاهَا، وَخَطِيئَة ارْتَكَبْنَـاهَا،

wa sayyi’atan iktasabnāhā, wa khaṭī’atan irtakabnāhā,

and an evil deed we acquired, and an error we committed.

كَانَتْ عَافِيَتُكَ لَنَا حِجَاباً دُونَ أَبْصَارِهِمْ،

kānat ‘āfiyatuka lanā ḥijāban dūna abṣārihim,

Your well-being was a veil for us, excluding their eyes,

وَرَدْماً دُونَ أَسْمَاعِهِمْ،

wa radman dūna asmā‘ihim,

and a barrier excluding their ears.

فَاجْعَلْ مَا ستَرْتَ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ،

fa-ij‘al mā satarta mina al-‘awrah,

So make what You covered of the faults,

وَأَخْفَيْتَ مِنَ الدَّخِيلَةِ وَاعِظاً لَنَا،

wa akhfayta mina ad-dakhīlah wā‘iẓan lanā,

and what You hid of the secret sin, an admonition for us,

وَزَاجِراً عَنْ سُوْءِ الْخُلْقِ وَاقْتِرَافِ الخَطِيئَـةِ،

wa zājiran ‘an sū’i al-khulq wa iqtirāf al-khaṭī’ah,

and a deterrent from evil character and the commission of error,

وَسَعْياً إلَى التَّوْبَةِ الْمَاحِيَةِ وَالطَّرِيْقِ الْمَحْمُودَةِ،

wa sa‘yan ilā at-tawbati al-māḥiyah wa aṭ-ṭarīqi al-maḥmūdah,

and a striving toward the effacing repentance and the praiseworthy path.

وقَرِّبِ الْوَقْتَ فِيهِ ،

wa qarrib al-waqt fīh,

And bring near the time for it,

وَلاَ تَسُمْنَا الْغَفْلَةَ عَنْكَ

wa lā tasumnā al-ghaflah ‘ank

and do not burden us with heedlessness toward You.

إنَّا إلَيْكَ رَاغِبُونَ ، وَمِنَ الذُّنُوبِ تَائِبُونَ.

innā ilayka rāghibūn, wa mina adh-dhunūbi tā’ibūn.

Surely we are desirous of You, and repentant from sins.

وَصَلِّ عَلَى خِيَرَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

wa ṣalli ‘alā khiyaratika allāhumma min khalqik

And bless, O God, Your chosen one from Your creation,

مُحَمَّد وَعِتْرَتِهِ الصِّفْـوَةِ مِنْ بَرِيَّتِـكَ الطَّاهِرِينَ ،

muḥammad wa ‘itratyhī aṣ-ṣifwah min barriyyatika aṭ-ṭāhirīn,

Muḥammad, and his progeny, the elite of Your pure creation,

وَاجْعَلْنَا لَهُمْ سَامِعِينَ وَمُطِيعِينَ كَمَا أَمَرْتَ .

wa ij‘alnā lahum sāmi‘īn wa muṭī‘īn kamā amart.

and make us attentive and obedient to them, as You commanded.
